50 years of married life (March 13, 1965 to March 13, 2015 & still going strong…)

I requested Loren & Nancy the permission to let me share their secrets. They have been married for 50 year + and still going strong.
Linda (Loren & Nancy’s child) asked her parents what the secret is to be married for 50 years.  This is their reply:
Well, I am sure it is different for each couple and generation, however, these are the items we have learned through our experience.
1-  Keep your faith in God.
We are all spiritual beings and our faith in God is how everything works.  You need to keep grounded.
2-  What you get for nothing,….is worth nothing.
In life you must work, struggle, face disappointments, redirect, reprogram, and re-execute many, many times.   The key is determation and overcoming  road blocks. The journey of life has many do overs,
3-  Nothing lasts forever.
The only constant in life is change,  enjoy the moment,   think, plan and look to the future but enjoy where you are at.    You only experience this day once and one time.   It does not matter how bad it gets or how good it is,—    this too shall pass.
King Solomon, one of the wisest men in the Bible,   called all of his advisors together and asked them how he could take the good times of life to offset the bad?     The advisors returned after a time and gave King Solomon a small box telling him it contained the way to offset the good times and the bad times of life.    It was a ring on which had been engraved the saying   “this too shall pass.”
4-  Real true friends in life you can count on one hand and have 3 fingers left over.
When the going gets tough, you are in it alone.  One or two true friends that will stay with you in life is a real blessing.   You will have many, many people that will come in and out of your life,—  but true friends are rare.
5-  D.T.A.    (Do not trust anyone.)
Anything you tell someone,   plan that it will go viral.   If you want to keep something quiet, do not tell anyone.    Only put on the internet what you want everyone to read,  forever.    Remember, the information on the net never goes away and can be published 50 years from now.
Through out history people have been betrayed by their “so called best friends.”
6-  The little vein in your neck.
Remember when you get mad a vein in your neck shuts off the oxygen to your brain,  and you do and say some of the dumbest things that you can never take back.
So think before you act, when you are mad.   However, if you are going to get mad, do it so everyone knows that you are steaming mad.
7-  Nothing in life is fair.
Although life is not fair it is still good. You are the person in charge and in your control tower.   You are in life for the long term, 75 to 110 years, so short term or quick fixes will not work.
8-  Keep your life clutter free.
Only buy and acquire what you truly love and enjoy.  Do not get caught up in the hype of life and the fads of stuff and junk that will fill the landfills of tomorrow.  Buy quality and traditional items because they never go out of style and if you take care of them, they may last you a lifetime.
9-  Life is a journey.
In life always try and remember to forgive quickly, be thoughtful of others, and pick your friends carefully.  Negative, loud and aggressive people always drag you down.
When the time comes to find your soul mate.   Remember LOVE is not finding someone to live with,… but finding someone you can not live without.
10-  Money, it is important.
Try and always keep some cash in reserve.  Keep your finances to your self and always exercise caution in all business dealings.
Remember you do not own anything,   you just get to use it for a time.  Since you are part Wondrasch, we always do things the hard way.   Expect and plan on it.   Other people think things always come easy to you and they never see  the effort you put forth.
Do not compare yourself to others for there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself.   Merlin told King Arthur centuries ago,    “somewhere in the world there is defeat for everyone,  some are destroyed by defeat and some are made small in victory.  Greatness lives in one who triumphs equally over defeat and victory.
Always enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.   Be yourself,  always be gentle with your self, strive to be happy.
Happiness is found along the way and not at the end of the road.
All our love     Mom and Dad
